    Apparently it is a Song about the Attraction People have to Simple Songs!.

    This song was simply The Police's response to similarly-named songs, like, for example, "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" by Manfred Mann.

    Don't get me wrong, I love the song (out of tune guitar and all), but it's not as great as it could've been.
    I mean, the bridge (One day, eloquence escapes you…) suggests that we're in for perhaps the best
    chorus the world has ever heard, but instead we're treated to someone who's seemingly overwhelmed
    by the world and just goes "La la la la, I'm not listening!".

    I still like the laid-back precision of the verses and I love the magnificent bridge, but even though the chorus
    is fine, it's just…De Don't Don't Don't…
